The Best Caribbean Islands to visit this year
Did you know the Caribbean consists of 28 islands encompassing over one million square miles? I've had the pleasure of visiting a few, but with so many options, it's hard to know where to go next. This is a great problem to have, as each island has so much to offer. When visiting the Caribbean, you know you can count on soft sand beaches, lush green hillsides, and poolside cocktails no matter where you go. I'm going to highlight what a few of the islands offer that makes them unique.
Barbados: the best island for Action. Not only does Barbados have some of the best beaches (all of which are open to the public), but it is also home to amazing surfing and snorkeling. If you want a break from the water you can visit Garrison Savannah, a popular horse race or the racing car circuit at the heritage railway.
St. Lucia: the best island for Romance. Because St. Lucia has a mountainous landscape, you can find many options for a room with a view here, which creates a secluded romantic atmosphere. Many resort options have private plunge pools.
Anguilla: the best island for Beaches. Now the whole region is known for beautiful beaches, but Anguilla is regularly voted best beaches in the Caribbean. There are 33 beaches all with white powdery sand, some to note: Cove Bay, Maundays Bay, and Shoal Bay.
Dominica: the best island for Diving. The calm waters make it one of the best diving sites in the world. Champagne Reef is a popular dive site named for the bubbling waters generated by a thermal spring.
Puerto Rico: the best island for History and Culture. The blend of Caribbean, African, American, and Hispanic cultures in Puerto Rico gives it a rich and distinct energy. San Juan is the second oldest European-founded city in the Americas, where you can find colorful Spanish buildings and great nightlife.
Dreaming of an island escape? The Caribbean offers something for everyone.
